The story
The Hotel Monteleone's bar wrote this one down for Stanley Clisby Arthur's 1937 book on New Orleans drinking, building it as a softer, sweeter cousin to the Sazerac next door on the same cocktail list. Equal parts rye and sweet vermouth let Benedictine and the Peychaud's carry the New Orleans character.
