The story

Nobody fully agrees where the name came from, but by the end of the 1800s this was already the drink people meant when they just said cocktail. How dry to make it has caused more bar arguments than almost any other recipe in this book.

Dry Martini questions

How do you make a Dry Martini?

Add gin and vermouth to a mixing glass with ice. Stir for about 30 seconds until very cold. Strain into a chilled martini or nick-and-nora glass. Garnish with an olive or a lemon twist. You need 60 ml (2 oz) gin and 10 ml (0.25 oz) dry vermouth.

What's in a Dry Martini?

Gin and dry vermouth, garnished with olive or lemon twist.

Is a Dry Martini shaken or stirred?

Stirred. It is all spirit, so stirring keeps it silky and clear.

A martini, with no ice.

How strong is a Dry Martini?

About 32% ABV once it is diluted, so it is a strong, spirit-forward drink.
